San Remigio is a place in Cebu City which is located at the Northern part of Central Visayas, Reion 7. San Remigio is composed of 27 barangays. One of these barangay is Punta, it is a small barangay but full of mysterious happening and it is where I live. In the month of May 16-17, San Remigiohanon people celebrate their fiesta “ LAPYAHAN FESTIVAL” in an honor to the Patron San Juan Nepomuceno. The story behind why it is called San Remigio is this:
There were two lovers name Remigio and Princess Punta Isabel. Princess Punta Isabel is a beautiful lady, a princess came from a rich family which live in the north while Remigio a gentleman, handsome,
loyal man which came from a poor family, live somewhere in the northeast. Yes, they were neighbor and they feel in love each other. They prove that being poor or rich is not a hindrance when your in love. But the father of Princess Isabel doesn’t like Remigio to be his future son-in-law. The father of Princess Isabel warned her to stop the relationship that Remigio and her started. Princess Isabel insist that she really love Remigio much and adds she love also her father because his father the only family she has. Who takes care of her because her mother died, when giving birth to her. In the end, she cannot say no to her father and she obey him.
One day, Remigio send a letter to her and states that they will meet intheir favorite place “pangpang”. So,they really see each other but the father of Princess Isabel suddenly came. The father get mad to the extinct that he scolded Princess Isabel not to go out or leave the palace, to stay on her room. Remigio tried his best to get Isabel but doesn’t the chance. Princess Isabel gets weaker each day because of total loneliness and she doesn’t eat much. After a couple of months, she died bringing the faithfulness of her love. Upon hearing the sad news, Remigio was very sad he has love her more than himself. He has blame his self for what happen to his beloved girl and getlonelier each passing day, and died.
